Research programmes are a collaborative research initiative
between London School of Theology and Middlesex University.
We believe in making research rigorous, accessible and relevant. Full or part time options offer flexibility and allow a student to peruse further studies while continuing in work. This opportunity involves the student in research at the cutting edge of their theological discipline.
Research programmes are specifically geared towards anyone who wishes to explore a topic of their choice further. We are proud to have a range of research supervisors based here at London School of Theology; many of whom are experts in their fields.
The MTh is a first research programme, offering training in research and research skills. Candidates write a 30,000-word thesis on a topic of their choice, with support from a specialist supervisory team. All research programmes are examined by an oral exam (viva).
The MPhil is a higher research programme for those who have completed formal theological training to Masters level and want to pursue their studies at a higher degree or beyond to PhD. Candidates write a 50,000-word thesis on a topic of their choice, with support from specialist supervisors.
The Doctor of Research (PhD) programme is for candidates who wish to pursue research on a given topic at expert level, in which they offer a fresh discovery or analysis in their field. Candidates write an 80,000-word thesis.
