Programme Structure – BA (Hons) Theology & Creative Musicianship

There are three levels of study – levels 4, 5 and 6 – with three possible exit points on the programme, including a Certificate of Higher Education after 120 credits, a Diploma of Higher Education after 240 credits, or a BA (Hons) Degree after 360 credits.

If you are a full-time student, you can work to graduate after 3 years. If you are a part-time student, you will normally complete your studies in 6 years (2 years for each level).

Cert HE in Theology & Creative Musicianship (Level 4)

In the first year of the programme (and second year if studied part-time), students take core modules in theology, worship, and music studies, including a practical church placement. One first study will be selected – Performance or Music Production (each with their own specific entry requirements).

Core Theology Studies

  • Introduction to the New Testament (10 credits)
  • Introduction to the Old Testament (10 credits)
  • Introduction to Doctrine (10 credits)
  • Spiritual Theology 1 (10 credits)

Core Worship Studies

  • History of Music in the Church (10 credits)
  • Worship Ministry in Practice (10 credits)

Core Music Studies

  • Musicianship Skills 1 (10 credits)
  • Creative Musicianship (10 credits)
  • Keyboard Skills (10 credits)
  • Ensemble Skills (10 credits)

First Study (select as appropriate)

  • Performance Studies 1 (20 credits), or
  • Music Production 1 (20 credits)
Dip HE in Theology & Creative Musicianship (Level 5)

In the second year of the programme (third and fourth if studied part-time), students take core modules in theology and music studies and continue with the selected first study. Students also choose 20 credits of options, drawn from a range of music, worship and theology, modules.

BA (Hons) in Theology & Creative Musicianship (Level 6)

In the third year of the programme (fifth and sixth if studied part-time), students take core modules in theology and music studies and continue with their selected first study. Students choose another 20 credits of options and will also complete a substantial project in theology and creative musicianship.
