Jean-Marc Heimerdinger
Research Supervisor in Hebrew Bible

Jean-Marc was a full time lecturer at LST for 32 years. He taught Biblical Hebrew, Old Testament texts, and linguistic approaches to the Bible.

Currently, he is supervising postgraduate research work in fields that are at the intersection of linguistics and biblical studies in regards to the interpretation of the Hebrew Bible.

Jean-Marc’s formation as a linguistically oriented scholar is responsible for his lifelong fascination for studies of meaning involving semantics and pragmatics. The role of contexts, the semantics of parts of speech and their discourse functions are most serviceable for exegesis and literary study of the Bible, and are also supremely relevant to biblical interpretation.

The payoff of these disciplines is always fresh exegetical understanding allied with pastoral implications, exactly what is needed in informed biblical Christian ministry today.  So, Jean-Marc is keen to encourage students in their exploration of the Old Testament and its great variety of text types, and he welcomes enquiries from them.
