After graduating in Natural Sciences from Cambridge, teaching Chemistry at the University of Liberia, and studying for an MBA at Glasgow, Steve worked in the oil industry for over 30 years, latterly in various senior regional and global HR roles. He studied at LST for a year after that (2005-6), subsequently becoming CEO of A Rocha UK, the Christian environmental organisation for 6 years, and then Chair of Trustees until 2018. He has lived and worked outside the UK for 9 years in Africa, the Middle East, and South East Asia. He was Chair of Governors of his local secondary school and has held various leadership roles in his local Baptist church (Christchurch Baptist, Welwyn Garden City). He is married to Jean and they have two adult children and three grandchildren. For relaxation he watches and rings birds, walks, and supports Everton. He has been a trustee since 2013 and chair since October 2016.
