Affordable, accessible and culturally informed counselling for adults aged 18 and over.
Since 2005, REMA Counselling Service has provided one-to-one counselling support to people across Watford, Hertfordshire, London and beyond. We offer both in-person and online therapy, providing a friendly, professional and caring service that responds to each person’s individual needs.
REMA is a multicultural and multilingual service committed to making effective, culturally informed counselling accessible to the wider community. We are one of the few services offering low-cost, long-term and open-ended counselling, helping people experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties.
Providing Affordable Counselling in the Heart of Watford
REMA Counselling Managers Erald and Tui host the annual REMA Open Day at the Wellspring Centre, welcoming members of the public, local counsellors and students to learn more about our service, ask questions and discover how counselling can support mental health and wellbeing. The Open Day also provides an opportunity for REMA to strengthen connections within the local community. Last year, Lib Dem Councillor Sam joined us to show his support and learn more about the work of REMA Counselling.
Our Approach
We use an integrative approach, informed by psychodynamic therapy and theological perspectives. Our work explores emotions, relationships, personal experiences and meaning, helping clients develop greater self-awareness, make independent choices and strengthen their mental health and wellbeing.
Ethical & Confidential Practice
REMA is a member organisation of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follows its Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
Confidentiality is central to our work. Our counselling and safeguarding policies clearly outline how client information is protected, including the limited circumstances where confidentiality may need to be broken to safeguard the client or others.
How We Work
Following an initial referral, we aim to offer an assessment within 1–2 weeks. The assessment lasts approximately 1–1.5 hours.
Following assessment, clients are placed on our waiting list and matched with a suitable counsellor according to their needs and therapist availability. Our counselling sessions are 50 minutes, and our open-ended therapeutic support is generally offered for at least one year.
We aim to begin counselling within two weeks of completing the assessment, although waiting times may vary throughout the year.
Connecting with Our Community
REMA Counselling holds an annual open day in September, providing an opportunity for local people, potential clients and community organisations to learn more about our counselling service.
The Open Day is a welcoming space to ask questions, understand how counselling works and discover how affordable support can be accessed.
We are committed to providing fair and equal treatment to everyone, regardless of gender, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, marital status, disability, sexuality, political views or religious belief.
Come and visit us on at this year’s REMA open event, Monday 21st September at The Wellspring Church Centre, Watford, WD17 2AH, 10:30am-4:30pm (poster below)
