Janet Penny
Lecturer in Theology & Counselling
Janet is a Chartered Psychologist and Counselling Psychologist accredited by the British Psychological Society, and Registered Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council. After working for some years in the public sector with children and adults, she set up her current private practice offering one to one therapy and clinical supervision. Janet also works at the Metanoia Institute on the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy programme, and teaches courses on Christian mindfulness. Her doctorate on intra-cultural competence in Christian counselling explored power dynamics and focused on the meaning of therapists and clients sharing faith, as well as the implications for other therapeutic dyads in which there is significant shared background. Areas of special interest: Integration of psychotherapy/psychology and theology, critical reflective practice, systemic therapy and organisational dynamics, power dynamics in Christian counselling, intra-cultural competence development, Christian mindfulness, the therapeutic relationship, qualitative research methodology, and research ethics. Janet teaches Relational Practice Level 6 on the Theology and Counselling BA programme at LST and provides research supervision. Janet is married to Dan who shares her addiction to books. She also loves photography and is learning the cello
