Leave a Legacy

A gift in your will can help support LST as a whole, a specific area of teaching, or perhaps a particular aspect of LST life.

For over 80 years, the London School of Theology has equipped people from around the world for Christian life and ministry. With the generous support of our community, we have pioneered innovative programmes and new ways of learning, and we are committed to continuing this work to shape future generations of Christian leaders.

We’ve partnered with FreeWills.co.uk to offer our supporters the opportunity to create a fully comprehensive Will for free. In three simple steps, you can make a personalised Will online from the comfort of your home, with live support from specialists. Each Will is checked by legal experts and can be updated anytime, free of charge.

There is no obligation to leave a gift to LST, but we hope you will consider doing so to help sustain our work. Making a Will is a way of caring for those you love and enabling your values and impact to continue into the future.

Types of gifts

It will not cost you a penny during your lifetime. It is simple to do and is free from inheritance tax.

The standard Inheritance Tax rate is 40%. It’s only charged on the part of your estate that’s above the threshold. Gifts to Charities are exempt from Inheritance Tax in the UK.

  • There is no Inheritance Tax to pay if the value of your estate is below the £325,000 threshold.
  • There’s normally no Inheritance Tax to pay if you leave everything above the £325,000 threshold to your spouse, civil partner, a charity or a community amateur sports club

Known as a ‘residual legacy’, it is a percentage of what remains of your estate after all other gifts and expenses have been paid. One of the advantages of a residuary legacy is that being a percentage, it is a proportion, so you don’t need to worry changing your Will if you have changes in your estate.

That is a gift of a set amount, called a ‘pecuniary legacy’.

Initially, financial constraints put my decision to study at LST under threat; but with the gracious support of LST, I’ve been able to make this dream a reality. God has really used this support to confirm that this is the right journey for me to take. I don’t think I could have made it here without such support
