MA Theological Studies
PG Cert., MA
The MA in Theological Studies is a unique programme that aims to foster a holistic approach to doing theology which rejuvenates the study and practice of Christian theology for Church and World.
Programme Overview
The MA in Theological Studies aims to enable students to develop their own approach or method of ‘doing’ theology. In their optional modules, students have an opportunity to study topics in various sub-disciplines of theology: systematic theology, Scripture, theological ethics/social justice, and the theology of worship.
The programme begins by investigating what doing theology entails. We prioritise the integration of commonly referred to sources of theology: Scripture, the historical construction of Christian belief (Tradition), the product of considered, rational and critical thought (Reason), which is evidenced in the lives of believers (Experience) and acknowledged by the witness of the Church as it preaches the gospel in its social and cultural context and makes disciples (Church/Community).
The capstone of the MA programme allows students to pursue a 15,000 word dissertation topic in theological studies that most interests them.
I was impressed by LST's rigorous selection process for postgraduate students. Despite not having a bachelor's degree in a theology-related subject, I was given the opportunity to write an entrance essay and undergo an interview. This was unlike another university that offered me a place solely based on my written application. I am genuinely convinced that LST is committed in nurturing students who are dedicated to the study of God's Word.

Programme Leader
Whether the student is studying the MA Biblical Studies or MA Theological Studies, my hope is that they will grow spiritually and develop in the varied ministries that God has called or will call students into. I want to equip students with the tools to be able to reflect upon and to enable others to reflect upon the hard questions that we all ask, whether Christian or non-Christian.
